PowerBay 1010 – Durra Panel
Overview
As part of the upgrade of Engineering Hangars 3 & 4, Qantas required a high-performance LED lighting solution capable of operating reliably in ambient temperatures up to +70°C while integrating with the existing Durra Panel structural ceiling system. The project also required DALI controls, long-term serviceability and a certified mounting solution suitable for aviation maintenance environments.

Australian-made Durra Panel has been manufactured continuously since 1954 and remains one of Australia's most widely specified structural ceiling systems, used throughout major aviation, defence and public infrastructure projects in Australia and internationally.
For the Melbourne Engineering Hangars upgrade, project engineers AECOM specified a lighting solution capable of delivering a 10-year service life in ambient temperatures up to +70°C. The varying mounting heights throughout the hangars also required a flexible lighting system capable of maintaining consistent illumination across multiple applications.

Soffito SLP – Durra Panel
Overview
For its new 28,000 m² Building 5 research and manufacturing facility, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare required a cleanroom lighting solution integrated with a Durra Panel structural ceiling system. Working in partnership with Ortech Industries Pty Ltd, Isollux developed a purpose-designed mounting and sealing solution that preserves the integrity of the cleanroom envelope while maintaining the flexibility and long-term serviceability of the ceiling system.

In 2013, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare commissioned New Zealand's first major LED upgrade for cleanroom manufacturing, partnering with our engineering and manufacturing team to develop the solution. The original installation operated reliably for more than twelve years before being replaced in 2026, significantly exceeding its original five-year warranty.
Since that first installation, Isollux has delivered a number of specialist lighting solutions across the East Tāmaki campus, including the cleanroom lighting installation for the Daniell Building (Building 4).
For the new 28,000 m² Building 5 research and manufacturing facility, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare once again engaged Isollux to develop a bespoke cleanroom lighting solution.
The project incorporates a Durra Panel structural ceiling system, selected for its strength, flexibility and sustainable construction. To integrate the lighting without compromising the performance or future maintainability of either system, Isollux worked alongside Ortech Industries Pty Ltd to engineer a dedicated mounting and sealing arrangement specifically for the project.
Soffito SLP was selected by the customer and project engineers for its ability to deliver the high illumination levels, exceptional uniformity and long-term maintainability required throughout the critical manufacturing areas. Fully integrated DALI controls provide operational flexibility while supporting future monitoring and asset management.
The resulting hermetically sealed installation integrates directly with the Durra Panel construction while preserving the integrity of the cleanroom envelope. The solution provides safe above-ceiling access, allows the lighting and ceiling systems to be serviced independently, and simplifies long-term maintenance without compromising the performance of either system.

Development of PV3-M1 Steam CIP Solution
When SKT's new automated processing system combined aggressive chemical sanitation with high-temperature steam CIP, our Belgian partner Next Generation LED came to Isollux for a new LED solution, capable of withstanding such extreme conditions.

Overview
The solution was PV3-M1, a food-grade luminaire developed by Isollux specifically to withstand the heat, steam, chemicals and thermal cycling of modern automated food-processing tunnels.
Proline TPX had already performed successfully through more than two years of continuous testing at Agristo in Belgium, installed in their fryer-to-freezer clean-in-place (CIP) tunnels. This provided confidence in the underlying product architecture, but SKT’s latest tunnel specification would raise those requirements significantly.
SKT’s latest and fully automated processing system, removes the limitations of manual sanitation, resulting in far a more demanding combination of operating ambients that ranged from -30ºC to +70ºC aggressive sanitising chemicals dispensed at elevated ambient temperatures, followed by high-temperature steam CIP to remove processing residue and bacteria.
The luminaire therefore needed to withstand not simply high pressure wash-down, but repeated exposure to aggressive chemicals, steam, heat, humidity, hydrolysis and thermal cycling as part of the normal operating process all well beyond the capabilities of any luminaire on the market.

Working with Next Generation LED and the application requirements defined by SKT, Isollux developed PV3-M1 for these conditions. The food-grade, steam-cleanable enclosure provides IP69K ingress protection while remaining fully serviceable in situ, with remote-mounted drivers removing temperature-sensitive electronics from the most hostile part of the installation. LED loading, materials and sealing systems were specified around the anticipated ambient temperatures, chemical exposure and sanitation cycles.
The modular LED system provides further flexibility during installation. Between one and four LED sections can be selected and individually directed to optimise light distribution and uniformity while reducing glare for remote camera monitoring within the highly reflective stainless-steel tunnels. Vibration-resistant stainless-steel mounting clips can be locked at any position along the luminaire, providing flexibility for attachment to walls, ceilings or machinery while maintaining an open, free-draining profile designed to minimise surfaces where moisture, residue and bacteria can accumulate.
While inherently more expensive than a conventional food-processing luminaire, PV3-M1 was engineered around the expectation of up to ten years of continuous exposure in these extreme conditions. Main tunnel lighting is supplemented by shorter dedicated emergency luminaires connected to a UPS located outside the tunnels, separating the emergency system from the primary lighting and keeping additional temperature-sensitive equipment away from the processing environment.
Developed initially in response to the SKT project, PV3-M1 extends the proven Proline concept into applications where conventional food-processing luminaires reach their practical limits, and now provides a standard Isollux solution for automated steam CIP, high-temperature sanitation and similarly demanding food-production environments.
